Research and planing

Brief

A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
  • A website homepage for the band
  • A cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package)
  • A magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package)

Audience profile

My audience profile is aimed at more of the alternative genre of music and clothing, this is a very wide group of people as alternative, is quite a vague term, the group of people within alternative I am looking at is linked with the music and clothing which is influenced by older eras such as 1960's garage rock, which a lot of the artist tracks in this genre are influenced by and dress in this style, and also the new indie style that is happening today in the form of a strong liking for music and music festivals, and taking care in the apperiance, mainly looking smart or smart casual. This style and genre is aimed at mainly a male audience around the age of 17 to 35.

The target audience for my video is males in the above age band who are more middle class alternatives, they will be mainly high level students who are quite informed about music. They are likley to listen casualy while busy studying and relaxing as background music. The target audience will access it more through muisc reviews, itunes and on social media feeds, as opposed to just on TV or picking up a magazine.

Other bands they may listen to are bands like The Vaccines, Joy Divison, The smiths and Arctic monkeys, this is because these bands have similar sounds and styles to The Horrors (the band I am doing), and are genrely listened to by the same audience, who are simialr in age and intrests.

Research into magazine adverts

This post is manily about the anylsis of this magazine advertisment, but also i anylised the album cover itslef as well to explore the links between the two, and to see how much the content from the poster to the album has been carried over.

Analysis and research into existing albums.

This is evidence to show that I have looked at another album case and analysed 3 panes including the CD itself and looked at the font, images and general theme running through the album case. When I make my Album cover I will take into account these conventions.

This album cover is quite simiar to the idea I have for my cover. One of the ways it similar is due to the image on the front, as it is a very blured and distorted image, which I plan to have a similar idea for, as this will follow my theme of darkness, and causes the audience to look at the picture more than once, and will be more likley to remember it.
Following the theme of darkness, I plan to have my front cover, and other panes on my digipack to be black (apart from the images), like this album cover, and so this was good to look at when comparing to my ideas for my digipack.
The overall layout of the album cover will be simial to mine in terms of simplicity, this cover only has a picture that doesn't cover the whole of the pane, and the name of the band "Cats Eyes" which is also the name of the album. My cover will also be very minimal and simplistic, as this can be good, telling the audience what they need to know, this also will reflect my video, as I also plan to have this very simplistic and minimal, this will be a running theme through all my products.
